Since its founding in August 1959, the Nagoya Sister Cities Association (renamed in June 1989) has carried out goodwill and promotional activities pertaining to Nagoya’s sister and friendship cities, with an emphasis on people-to-people exchange and the participation of local citizens and organizations interested in sister and friendship city exchange. In July 1990, the Association was awarded the Foreign Minister’s Prize for excellence in its approach to exchange activities and in its achievements.

The City of Nagoya signed its first sister city agreement with the City of Los Angeles in April 1959 and has since established sister and friendship city affiliations with Mexico City, Nanjing, Sydney and Turin. The City of Nagoya endeavours to promote mutual understanding and friendship and to cultivate a greater sense of global awareness amongst its citizens by coordinating a wide range of exchange activities in the fields of human exchange, culture, education, sports, economy and technology.

The Nagoya Sister Cities Association arranges many different activities so that each citizen can play an active role in international exchange. I sincerely hope that this website deepens your understanding of Nagoya’s sister and friendship city exchange and that it will play a role in promoting further exchange.
